This is because, those born in January or February are often affected by which year your birth date should belong to. Take your example: In the above resource reference:- Your birthday is said to belongs to "1944" where the lunar new year starts on 25 Jan 1944 and ends at 12 Feb 1945 While "1945" belongs to 13 Feb 1945 to 1 Feb 1946. Thus a person who is born on 28 January 1946 should be treateda as born under 1945. If you use our website, you should be able to cross-check and get the correct information. The lowest common denominator of Chinese birthdate checking is always based on Lunar Calendar. This is the most authentic traditional Feng Shui. In the past, some book authors especially when writing Astrology books often merely state if one is born in 1945, then no matter which day i.e. 1 Jan 45 to 31 Dec 45 is treated as born in such a year. In past forum messages, I mentioned that actually, the destructive cycle is also the `wealth' creation model. 3. Here, if we look carefully at this "destruction": actually, logically speaking wood gets it's nurishment from earth. 5. Another example is Metal destroys wood 7. Imagine: puchasing a block of wood for a few dollars. But if one has the relevant metal implements; one can certainly carve out an object of art. 8. For example, the classic case of people getting the Chinese (cheaper labour) to carve out pieces of e.g. the three-legged toad: from raw material to product, it costs very little. Thus, for those who pay $388 or even $1000, goes into the pocket of the sellers. 9. Thus, wealth here is that we give our wealth to other people's pocket. 10. Since you are a strong water person, your wealth element is actually "Fire element". 11. Thus, under the Five Elements, your best career or Career associated with Wealth has to do with jobs like Marketing, sales, PR etc... 12. Frankly, I am a weak wood person. Dear Philip, Frankly, in my opinion; the hand-me-downs you mentioned perhaps has more to do with co-incidence, than anything else. This is because logically, such items do not seem to pass down an illness or a situation. I would strongly thing that the hand-me-downs is not really a major issue. But, it is no harm playing safe - not to hand it over to your new born. So far, the incomplete picture is that Flying Star feng shui has SE as #5 at this sector. Please check to see if the room does not have earth tones especially yellow, cream or beige or fire tones e.g. red, pink or purple in this room. Dear Jen, Yes, in many instances if the houses are not in the same alignment, there are gaps between homes or a slope. Things like the frontage of the house being blocked by other homes etc.. would also affect the Feng Shui of a home. Dear Susan, Most likely both of you are conscious about the the mirror above your bed. The best is to buy an opaque film, cut out the profile or outline, first. And if you know how to D.I.Y. simply, clean the mirror first, and then add a bit of soap into a spraying bottle, and spray the water onto the mirror. Once done, just paste the film and use a tool e.g. like a credit card or atm card to smooth the surface. (Do remember to use some cloth to collect the spilled water. Covering it with symbols, would often not help if the base (mirror has not being covered up). For the Chinese, the double happiness symbol can be used. The practitioner will describe e.g. the specific calligraphy or a certain painting." 3.2 The client (victim): "Do you know where can I get such a painting?" 3.3 FS Practitioner: (Without blinking an eye, immediately says) "You can get it from my office." 3.4 (At the next location) FS Practitioner: "You need a special water feature. Here the FS practitioner describes a `unique' circular water feature that can increase wealth." 3.5 Again, the client (or victim) asks: "Do you know, where can I buy such an item?" 3.6 FS Practitioner: "You can also get this at my office". Often, if one finds such going on; it is time to `scrap' the practitioner. As, it would imply that the practitioner is all about squeezing out more money out of us! 1. Further to what I mentioned, traditional Feng Shui practitioners do use colours but as mentioned in a holistic way. 2. This is where; 2.1. prior to colour, the placement of furniture, bed is looked into 2.2. external threats 2.3. flow of qi inside the home 2.4. many other shapes and forms and flying star feng shui is taken into consideration. 3. In addition, for a bedroom or home, not only the ba zi of the indiviual for each room or living/dining for breadwinner are taken into consideration; 4. The sectors should be harmonised to the Flying Star of each sector. Flying star can also be broken down into colour. For example, for a Period 7 home, often, the East sector has one or more #5 bad earth (yellow or dull yellow) and thus this colour is not favourable for this sector EVEN if the individual's ba zi favours such a colour tone. 5. More importantly, I also like to highlight that 9-Star Ki practitioners of the "Japanese style of Feng Shui" also predominatly use colour. 6. For example, if one `picks' up a Feng Shui book especially written by British authors, these authors often, have an inclination towards 9-star ki Feng Shui. 7. Predominantly, 9-star ki Feng Shui is very popular in both Japan and Britain. 8. And many of these British authors have written books with almost nearly 3 quarters of their book in all `shades' of interpretation of the use of colours especially related to Eight aspirations or Life associations. 9. The most serious fault lies more with the practitioner. For example, unfortunately, there are still Kindergarten type of Feng Shui practitioners. 9.1. For example, the easiest to `find fault' with one is to ask the rationale why the practitioner chose a certain colour. And if the practitioner says: " I choose blue for the north part of your home or pink for the south side. While I choose green for the east side". Be careful of such a practitioner. Indeed, this is truly the kindergarten type of Feng Shui one should be worried about. If one's luck is out, one may just get such a "practitioner." Caveat Emptor! Let the buyer beware! Dear Ann, Under the attachment, it seems that there is a long narrow corridor between the living, corridor and bedroom/balcony. The centerpoint of the home has restricted qi flow or flux. In addition, markings 1, thru 2 thru 3 shows the leak from the living towards the middle bedroom. A rough indication is that it seems more favourable that there is no wall between the living room and corridor. Except for other hidden considerations such as what is the opening at the balcony e.g. are there windows, full glass height area and which compass direction there are. In your home, do check whether you do have a water position. Many people, assume that water positions are good. Dear Ann, Based on your attachment of the layout plan of your home: 1. Hopefully, the main entrance is not facing or looking at the staircase. In case this is so, one option is to see, if there is a mirror like reflective plate to reflect away the staircase. As a last resort, a ba gua mirror may have to be used. 2. In addition to the flyover; yeah; the odd shaped home will pull down further the feng shui luck of the home. Plus there is a large missing corner (next to the living room) and the odd shaped balcony does not seem to allow for good qi distribution all round. Frankly, I do not want to sound pessimistic, but, no amount of internal cure, given the stacking up of so many leaks, is very difficult to push up the luck of the home in such a situation. Dear Jacqueline, Frankly, it is difficult to give proper advise, given limited information. This is because, usually, when we approach a home, we look at the layout plan or of the interior of the home; the location of toilets, openings e.g. side openings etc.. to see if the wealth leak can be minimised. In relation to the current `wall' etc.. It also includes scanning of the next door neighour and the fully area front, back etc.. Dear Lynda, 1. Application of Feng Shui is "holistic" and often, the key success has to do with: 1.1. External environment. 1.2. The site, the location and building. 1.3. The interior of the home. 2. Often, if Para 1 is very bad e.g. like the recent case of a fly over passing so close to a home; other than I mentioned, making "friends" with Osama - to demolish it, there is nothing much one can do `magically' on this issue. 3. The modern Fly can be considered as the modern day sha qi of moving metal/noise pollution etc... And often, unfortunately, it creates an imbalance. 4. The site is equally important. I have highlighted many cases where, even if one hire, one, two or three FS practitioners to look into the home; it can be pretty useless if there are things like "penetrating sha qi". 4.1 For example, I mentioned of several case studies of Singapore Housing board flats that have `guns' pointed at them. These guns are like penetrating sha qi - which gives bursts of `problems' to the owners. 4.2 Under such a situation, whatever colour is painted inside the home, makes not much difference. 5. Unfortunately, the best resort is, -- in such cases -- move out A.S.A.P. (as soon as possible). 6. Only after considering whether there are such `primary threats' and also making sure that the interior of the home does not have sha qi, poison arrows and things like toilet at the frontage and at the centre-point etc... 7. If all these plus, other leaks are mended, then, under Feng Shui, it is correct to see if each room is harmonised to the sector e.g. Flying star and to the individual ba zi. Therefore, I hope you can go thru the above. Earned wealth Looking at these and the other deities, can help to determine whether one can be a worker, or work for self. Other indications also concern the 10 year luck periods. Dear Ann, Often, if there is no reply, there are often no cures for it. It is not like making friends with Osama Bin Laden or SBL and asking him or his cronies to help demolish the fly over. There are also other illegal consequences to this. If the noise is very loud etc... or cars or trucks or even motor-bikes makes too much noise, then, if there is really nothing can be done, then not sure if closing the windows can help to reduce some of the noise. The Flying Star numbers and their significance:- 1 = water (blue, black or grey) 2 = strong earth (yellow) 3 = strong wood (green) 4 = weak wood (green) 5 = strong earth (Bad Yellow) 6 = strong metal (gold) 7 = weak metal (gold) 8 = small earth (yellow) 9 = fire (red, pink or purple) 2. What you may be confused about is about the Chinese `rhyme' or `verse' created to give a practitioner a sense of what is "good" and what is "bad". This has much to do, with trying to create something which one can remember. For those who were born around 1960s or earlier, would recall the "Black and White Mistrel Show". Where the singers and dancers are (white) but painted themselves black. Here, this verse or rhyme wanted to educate or let the user easily memorise terms. The Nine Star Colour TERMS: 1 = white 2 = black 3 = Primary Green colour 4 = Light Green 5 = dull yellow 6 = white 7 = brown or sometimes maroon 8 = white 9 = purple If one looks carefully, WHITE is suppose to represent goodness or auspicious. For example, a wedding glown is often white (virgin). Thus under this verse, which one memories: 1, 6 and 8 are considered auspicious since they are White. The other "dark" colours (so long as they are not white) perhaps no longer "virgin" colours? They are suppose to represent Bad stars or numbers. This is why, sometimes, a Feng Shui master would like to recommend the use of 1 black fish with 6 gold fish. Since 1 and 6 are "white" or clean or auspicious numbers.

Frankly, if one analyse Feng Shui carefully, often the key success has much to do with our external environment. Or higher weightage is to placed on our external environment. 3. For example, just three months back, this businessman consulted on his home Feng Shui. And he is in this `metal' parts business for quite sometime. 4. After our home consultation, he asked me whether, should he invite me to look at his business Feng Shui. 5. Here, I asked him how is his business. He said, it is OK. 6. Given this understanding, I mentioned to him that it is not really necessary to do a FS audit of his business. 7. After this, he mentioned that, in-fact, quite sometime back, he got to know a FS practitioner (who had visited Singapore). He did ask this FS practitioner for comments on his office Feng Shui. My client said that the FS practitioner, simply says, "Feel free" to place or position according to what you like. 8. The morale of the story is: "Feng Shui has often much to do with the exterior. What this practitioner means is that other than Earth Luck, our Human (Man) Luck, is equally important. 9. Thus, I believe this is the same for you. If initially, you feel very comfortable with your current decor and arrangement, why spoilt it? 10. In Feng Shui, the main consideration would often be if one constantly falls sick e.g. bedroom etc.. 11. In the Holy trinity of Luck, (Heaven, Earth and Man luck); often, even if one's earth luck is not so good, but we do have good Man luck e.g. good atitude towards life etc... all these can superceed, all our worries or problems! Dear Grace, The clue to the wealth element is based on two considerations: 1. Personal Ba Zi element of a person. Is the person a weak or strong wood? 2. If one looks carefully at the "Destructive sequence", it is actually quite misleading to say that the destructive sequence in `no good'. In fact, the destructive sequence has also to do with wealth creation. 4. For example: In the case of the wood element. A plant or tree gets its nurishment from the ground. Here, literally, the roots of the plants go into the earth to `crush' and anchor itself into it. This is indeed `destructive' to the earth. 5. But, if we look at it from a different angle; the plant or tree's wealth is associated with the earth. 6. Similarly, if we can imagine a block of wood. A block of wood can be bought cheaply or sometimes free! from nature. We can use a metal implement to carve up an object. This object, if it is a nice work of art can fetch a much higher sum. Thus, metal's wealth comes from wood. 7. A weak metal person: A weak metal person cannot directly benifit from his wealth since his metal tools are considered small. And unable to fully `attack' his wealth i.e. wood. Thus, ideally, a metal person's wealth career is often said to be in the wood area but better still if it is associated with earth element. 8. Dear Anon, Please see below:- 1. Usually, the most common approach in Feng Shui is "if it cannot be seen it is no longer a threat" applies. 2. Therefore, things like a screen or (for less modern approach - beaded screens) can be used. 3. The Taiwan Feng Shui approach is commonly to use plants to be used as a screen. For example, artifical plants can be used in such a situation to screen the staircase from the main door. 4. The Hong Kong type of approach is to use a water postion e.g. a fish tank to neutralise or create a flow of the Five Elements between the offending object and the main door. 4.1 The Hong Kong type of approach uses the Five Elements in a harmonious cycle. Much like the Chinese martial arts of "Tai qi". Here, under this form of martial arts; if an opponent fights hard, the `trick' here is to use his/her force by swift movements of the arms to slow it down, divert the hard blows and `return' it to the opponent. 4.2 For example, using a fish tank containing all five elements to help neutralise the threat: where: water in the tank = water element fishes = often these are gold fishes = metal element rectangle tank = earth element light in the tank = fire element some plants or greenery in the tank = wood element Here, there is a five element harmonious flow. Under this conference, I had previously posted various types of ba gua mirrors. Plus also, given a summary of their use. Hence, pa kua or (Ba gua) mirrors are often used for: 1. to deflect sha qi 2. to protect (drive away evil or prevent evil from entering a location i.e. placing it above the door) In fact the term Pa Kua is actually a Hokkien (Chinese dialect group spelling or sound like name) of the Mandarin word: Ba Gua. Thus the words are one and the same. Ba Gua can also refer to the Trigram or the First Heaven Sequence diagram on the trigram and the Later Heaven Sequence trigram. Dear Vijay, So far, based on my personal observations, this is not a major issue. In Singapore, like anywhere else in the world, many landed properties (site) are either: 1. On the same level to the road 2. Higher than the road 3. Lower than the road Based on my personal experience, I often see many homes similar to your description ie. (para 2 type) do not encounter financial loss. Nor affect the health of the owners. But rather, more importantly, the concern is that of open drains that e.g. flow behind the house or at the side. Often, rather, if the house has a large opening e.g. sliding glass doors at the frontage with main entrance doors, there is a possibility that children may not get married or remain single. On it's own, therefore, such slope is not a major concern. And, so far, I believe, no Feng Shui book has fully stated this as a major cause of wealth loss. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Wayne, 1. Yes, some Feng Shui books warn of living close to high power transmission lines. Here, some of these books quote the magnetic field coming from such lines as `unsafe' for health. 2. So far, if I am not mistaken, there were studies conducted even by Universities to say that there are no adverse effects on human beings. 3. This could also explain why, some of us are still `allowed' by the authorities to live close to these power-lines. 4. Under Commonsense approach to Feng Shui, it is always safer to stay clear of power towers. Not because of any ill effects (magnetic force) but rather, in an unlikely senario of the tower falling down e.g. due to high winds or gale force wind etc.. Many would say this is a remote possibility. It may or may never happen! 5. In my opinion, so long as the structure does not seem to slice thru e.g. an open window or the main door, there is nothing to worry about. 6. I suspect, the other concern has more to do with "Human factor" or asthetic and our perception that high voltage is considered "dangerous". This is only a human perception. 7. In my opinion, unlike microwave energy (commonly found) in handphones in various degrees - depending on the manufacture, magnetic fields is in fact more evident in our homes. As many homes have wiring (lower voltage) running within our homes. 8. In the US, the voltage is around 110 volts. Here in Singapore and UK, the voltage is twice that i.e. 240 volts.
